Come Sing With Us

Newcastle City Choir is a four-part mixed voice choir - Soprano, Alto, Tenor,  Bass.

We rehearse weekly on Wednesday nights from 7 pm to 9 pm.
We rehearse at Mayfield Uniting Church Hall: cnr. Highfield & Kerr Sts.
The choir functions from early February through to late December each year.

We perform both a cappella and accompanied works from the Renaissance,
Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods.

We perform all types of music written in the 20th and 21st centuries including music that would be described as Art Music; the popular styles of Music Theatre, Jazz and Gospel; as well as the various styles of Popular Music from the 1940s
through to the present.

Concert Schedule

We present a Major Concert in September each focussing on different styles of music  and an Annual Christmas Concert in December to raise funds for charity. The choir also participates in ANZAC Day, Battle of the Coral Sea and Rememerance Day services in Civic Park.  In addition, we have two associated Dress Rehearsal Concerts, 2-3 weeks before each major concert, for a community organisation.
And, as an extra for those who are interested, we present two concerts per month at Aged Care facilities throughout the Newcastle & Lake Macquarie region.
Participation in these concerts is NOT an essential requirement of choir membership.

Brief History and Vision

Newcastle City Choir was established in 1954.
Originally it was a semi-professional choir with a membership of 130 choristers.

In its early years, performances included major choral works such as Handel’s Messiah,
Mendelssohn’s Elijah and the Brahms Requiem. More recently the choir has been a performing group
of 30 members and, amongst a range of other performances, presented Vivaldi’s Gloria.

Vision For The Future

There is a wealth of choral repertoire ranging from the 1400s to the present day
and ranging from the work of Classical composers to the songwriters of the 21st

It is the current intention of the choir’s leadership to rebuild an ensemble that is flexible in style,
skilled in ability and full of passion for music, we are supportive of training new members, and are fulfilling for the trained musician and were are known for a standard of excellent performance.
