About Us
Newcastle City Choir was established in 1954. Originally it was a semi-professional choir with a membership of 130 choristers. In its early years, performances included major choral works such as Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and the Brahms Requiem. More recently the choir has been a performing group of 30 members and, amongst a range of other performances, presented Vivaldi’s Gloria. As part of its commitment to give back to the community, it gives concerts in local aged care facilities and supports local civic events. Last year the choir also participated in The Shirley Moxey Concert and The Festival Of Choirs.
